Support ATAG Petition - 91 signatures for more Langston Blvd Trees
April 24th, ATAG participated in the “Earth Day Every Day Street Festival” on Langston Blvd. We provided information on the value of mature trees and preserving Arlington’s tree canopy. In addition, ATAG collected 91 signatures on a petition urging the Langston Boulevard Alliance and County planners to include preservation and planting of trees early in the design process. Flyers announcing the May 7th Civic Federation meeting “Taking Action For Trees” were also made available.
The text of the petition is provided below. You can give your support to this effort by emailing the County Board, the County Manager, the Planning Commission Long Range Planning Committee and the Langston Boulevard Alliance.
Petition Text: Make “Plan Langston Boulevard” development more tree friendly!
We support preserving Arlington’s mature trees and are concerned about the rapid loss of trees on public and private lands. Trees are important to the environmental quality, energy efficiency, and psychological health of Arlington. As Langston Boulevard planning goes forward, we ask that increased commitment and effort be directed to the Sustainability and Resilience Element of the Plan in order to:
· preserve existing tree canopy,
· preserve ample space and conditions to allow canopy trees to survive and prosper, and
· require expanded planting programs for both public and private spaces.
