6404 Washington Blvd
In front of 6404 Washington Blvd., a beautiful flowering European Horsechestnut tree on the Arlington list of Notable Trees for its importance and rare species. The 1890s Victorian Queen Anne home at the site had been restored over the years to maintain the authenticity of 19th-century architecture.
Dawn redwood
“The Heritage dawn redwood on N. Ohio street lost its battle to developers. The desire to protect the diminishing tree canopy in Arlington came to a head in the current struggle between Richmond Custom Developers and local conservationists over the fate of a 114-foot high Champion dawn redwood tree located at 3260 N. Ohio Street in a Resource Protected Area (RPA.)” Shirley Ruhl, Arlington Connection Newspapers, Sept 4, 2018, p 3.
Upton Hills Park
Consultations between NOVA Parks and Arlington County resulted in a revised plan that would save some trees at Upton Hill Park. NOVA Parks also promised not to create a new parking space or access road thereby saving some trees. While the announcement appears to portend a better plan than the original one that would have destroyed more than 100 trees, it still would result in the loss of many trees and the paving of more surface at the top of Upton Hill.
