Advocacy Bolstered at ATAG Volunteer Meeting

ATAG Volunteer Meeting Participants

The September 14th meeting with 17 attendees explored volunteer opportunities with ATAG. Detailed information on how to contact and speak to County Board and Commission was presented along with ideas for effective presentations and conversations. Noting the effectiveness of advocacy letters to public officials and letters to the editor for news outlets, speakers provided contact information and suggestions on strategy. Other topics included monitoring the condition of specimen and notable trees, gathering contact information on County offices involved in tree management, expanding ATAG’s social media presence and website. and the need to act on state legislation to give Arlington more authority to manage our urban forest. As a result of the conversations, ATAG will be expanding its “how to” resources to support these initiatives.
